When Donald Trump becomes the President of the USA, he will demand that NATO countries allocate at least 5 percent of their GDP to defense.
This has been announced by Trump's team to European officials, according to sources with insight for Financial Times.
Currently, NATO countries' defense expenditure needs to be at least 2 percent of their GDP – which 23 out of 32 member countries follow.
Trump also plans to continue providing military support to Ukraine, according to the sources.
Trump has previously criticized the USA's multi-billion support to Ukraine, and claimed that he would end the war in Ukraine "within 24 hours" by negotiating a settlement.
Donald Trump has also previously threatened not to help those NATO countries that "do not pay their bills".
