Almost half of the 32 people found dead have been identified. The bodies were found in hidden graves in the community La Calera, just over 30 miles northwest of Mexico City.
The state of Guanajuato is characterized by persistent organized violence. Between January and July this year, more than 1,500 murders were registered. In Iraputo, twelve people were killed in a mass shooting at a street party a few weeks ago.
Criminal groups often bury their victims in secret graves, like those found in Iraputo. According to the Mexican government, over 132,000 people are missing.
