Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni says that she is no longer suspected of having been involved in the release of a Libyan leader who is accused of war crimes.

The war crime suspect Osama Najim was arrested in Turin in January after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against him. But just a few days later, he was released by a court due to a technicality and was then flown to Tripoli.

A criminal investigation was initiated against Meloni, but according to the Prime Minister, the investigators have found that she had not been informed about Najim's arrest and therefore could not have been involved in his release.
