In posts on Facebook and Instagram, the zoo is seeking various pets such as guinea pigs and rabbits that their owners no longer want. Even horses can be donated to become food for lions, lynxes and other predators that live in the park.

The zoo writes that it has a responsibility to emulate the "natural food chain for predators". They assure that the pets that are donated will be put down by skilled staff.

The posts have led to lively discussions in the comment fields where people criticize the request but also positive reactions to the fact that the park wants to maintain the predators' natural way of eating.

- Animals evoke emotions in people, they should, but here there has been a misunderstanding, because we are not interested in pulling people's guinea pigs out of their cages, says Anette Sofie Warncke Nutzhorn, head zoologist at Aalborg zoo, to the news agency Ritzau.

From the zoo, one says that the initiative has existed for many years and is a common approach in Denmark.
