We had a resourceful citizen who saved the life of this person. He heard cries for help, took a lifebuoy with him and managed to get the person up, says Thomas Bertze, commander at the police command center in Region Mitt.

The police and rescue services were alerted to the scene just before 3 am. Both the man who ended up in the water and his rescuer, a man in his 20s, were taken to hospital.

They were hypothermic but seem to have made it both of them. It was a very resourceful intervention.

What led to the accident is unclear.
