Snow on the way – SMHI issues warnings

On Monday, rain, snowfall, and strong winds are expected in parts of northern Sweden. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute has issued yellow warnings in parts of northernmost Norrbotten and the Norrbotten Mountains.

Snow on the way – SMHI issues warnings

This is actually the first snowfall overall, with a few exceptions, says Anders Wettergren, duty meteorologist at SMHI.

Locally, up to 15 centimeters of snow can fall, but a lot of what falls is expected to melt away.

The warning for the Norrbotten mountains applies to wind in combination with snowfall from Monday morning. On the mountains, reduced visibility can make it difficult to orient oneself.

From Monday afternoon, snowfall is expected in several areas in Kiruna and Gällivare municipalities in northernmost Norrbotten, which can be abundant and cause traffic problems, delays, and cancelled departures in bus, train, and air traffic.

The latter warning remains in place even on Tuesday.

On Tuesday and Thursday, extensive low-pressure systems are expected to pass over Sweden, which will bring precipitation over large parts of the country.
