The singer and songwriter Monica Törnell is this year's recipient of the Cornelis Award. The award entails her receiving one million kronor.
In a press release, Törnell says the award changes her life.
"It creates security and it's not insignificant. It feels fantastic".
The Cornelis Award has been presented annually by the Cornelis Vreeswijks Memorial Foundation since 1988. This year is the first time the sum amounts to one million kronor.
Monica Törnell has collaborated with Cornelis Vreeswijk on several occasions, which contributed to her national breakthrough in 1971.
"Monica is a singer with great breadth, she sings ballads and rock with precisely the same credibility, has written many memorable songs and made many fantastic interpretations of others", reads part of the jury's motivation.
The award ceremony takes place during Cornelis Day on 1 September in Stockholm.
