Already on December 10, Landerholm himself wrote on X that he "forgot a document in a locked cabinet at Gällöfsta course center" at the beginning of 2023.
He also stated that the document was found and retrieved by one of his colleagues, and that a risk assessment was made at the Government Offices. "After a conversation with the security chief, no further measures were taken regarding this," he wrote on X.
According to DN, it was about four confidential documents that were forgotten at the course center after an internal conference in March 2023. At least one of these documents is, according to DN, security-classified. DN's investigation is based on information from several sources with insight and the Government Offices' risk assessment.
Can cause harm
That a document is security-classified means that it contains information that, if revealed, can cause harm to Sweden's security.
DN has requested the risk assessment. However, it is almost entirely confidential, and therefore it is not clear what harm is assessed to have occurred if the information in the forgotten documents was revealed. According to the newspaper's information, the Government Offices, however, assess the incident as "very serious".
Security-classified documents have four levels, of which the highest means that revealed information can cause extremely serious harm to Sweden's security, and the lowest can lead to minor harm.
Landerholm tells DN that he cannot comment on whether the forgotten documents were security-classified or not, as it is confidential.
This is not the first time Landerholm has been involved in a security incident. DN reports that several sources, independently of each other, describe deficiencies in security culture and organization around the national security adviser.
In December, DN revealed that Landerholm forgot a mobile phone at the Hungarian Embassy overnight and that a notebook was left behind after an interview on Swedish Radio in January 2023.
The S will act
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) stated then that the Government Offices' security department assessed the incidents as being of "minor character".
It was after the article about the two incidents that Landerholm on X told about the third one at Gällöfsta course center.
The Chairman of the Defense Committee, Peter Hultqvist (S), reacts to the new information about Landerholm. He says that the party is now discussing what concrete measures S will take.
We must find ways to get to the Riksdag and account for this matter, how it happened with these documents and what kind of security levels are involved, says Hultqvist to DN.
