The car of the type Ferrari 248 F1 was bought in December 2007 by an anonymous person. It has not been out on any track for more than ten years, but in the first years after the purchase, it was test-driven several times on Ferrari's test track in Fiorano, writes Motorsport-Magazin.
Schumacher won five GP victories in the car and also took over Brazilian Ayrton Senna's record for the number of pole positions in his career. A record that now belongs to Briton Lewis Hamilton, who also shares the record for the number of World Championship titles with Schumacher.
The seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher left the F1 circus in 2006, but returned in 2010 to drive for Mercedes. He officially ended his career in 2012.
In December 2013, he suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps. Schumacher has been cared for at home for a long period, but information about his condition has been and is scarce.
His Ferrari car from 2006 is going under the hammer at Sotheby's auction house in New York at the beginning of next week.
