The Court of Appeal increases the damages that Mats Dagerlind, responsible publisher of the right-wing populist website Samnytt, must pay to a person from the now-defunct Näthatsgranskaren. Dagerlind was sentenced in February to one month's imprisonment for two cases of defamation and one case of gross defamation.

The verdict was appealed and the Court of Appeal is now increasing the damages that Dagerlind must pay from 20,000 to 40,000 kronor, according to Expo.

The case was brought as a private prosecution, meaning that it was a private individual who brought the charges, not a prosecutor. Mats Dagerlind is now also sentenced to pay the trial costs, 128,000 kronor, for the person from Näthatsgranskaren.

Samnytt was convicted after describing the person, among other things, as despicable and criminal, but also as a "despicable human being".

Näthatsgranskaren has worked to reduce hate crimes and violations on the internet.
