The salute was fired at 12 o'clock today with 21 shots from the Skeppsholmen salute station in Stockholm, as well as from the salute stations in Boden, Härnösand, Karlskrona, and Gothenburg.
According to tradition, the salute is fired, among other things, at royal births. On Friday, Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip had a daughter, who was born at Danderyd Hospital.
On Monday, the ceremonies following the princess's birth will continue with a thanksgiving service, Te Deum, in the Royal Chapel, with invited representatives from the government, parliament, and other parts of public Sweden, the court announced.
Just before, a council will be held at the Palace where King Carl Gustaf will inform the government that a new member of the royal family has been born.
The newborn princess is the king's and queen's ninth grandchild and younger sister to Prince Carl Philip's and Princess Sofia's three sons, Princes Alexander, Gabriel, and Julian.
