Russia is trashing the OS opening ceremony in Paris.
Maria Zacharova, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calls Friday's ceremony a "great failure".
"I didn't plan to watch the opening ceremony. But after seeing a few pictures, I couldn't believe it wasn't deep fake or photoshop", Zacharova writes on Telegram.
Zacharova notes that spectators and guests had to sit under the open sky for several hours in occasionally heavy rain. Russia has a practice of sending up planes and trying to disperse clouds at large outdoor events if there is a risk of rain.
The opening ceremony was not broadcast live on Russian TV.
After the invasion of Ukraine, only a few Russian athletes are allowed to compete in the OS. No teams are allowed to participate and the Russian flag is prohibited.
