13th-ranked Daniil Medvedev was not at all satisfied with the events during the match against the 51st-ranked Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. After a photographer stepped onto the tennis court, the Russian world star was really fired up.
Bonzi served for the win at the score 6–3, 7–5, 5–4 when the chaos broke out. Judge Greg Allensworth stopped the game and tried to get the situation under control by telling the disturbing photographer.
When Bonzi then got a new chance for a first serve, Medvedev exploded. He went up to the judge's table, turned to the audience and urged them to boo.
Are you a man? Why are you scared? What's wrong? People, he wants to go home. He gets paid per match and not per hour, thundered the 29-year-old straight into the camera.
Despite the tumult, Medvedev managed to save the match ball, take the third set in a tiebreak and then completely dominate the fourth set with 6–0.
However, it was not enough all the way. Bonzi pulled himself together, won the decisive set with 6–4 and thus advanced to the second round.
Medvedev's frustration was not over there, though. After the loss, the anger continued when he smashed his racket against the ground.
