Most of the drones were directed towards the region of Bryansk, which borders Ukraine. Many were shot down, "72 over Bryansk, 20 over the Moscow area, 14 over Kursk, 13 over Tula" and an additional 25 elsewhere, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, as reported by the AFP news agency.
Four airports around Moscow, including the major airports Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, suspended all traffic in connection with the attack.
According to Andrey Vorobyov, governor of the capital region, there are reports that a middle-aged woman and a nine-year-old child were killed in the attacks.
Russia also launched attack drones on Tuesday night, but on a much smaller scale. Three were shot down by Ukrainian air defense, according to regional authorities.
