The USA's Vice President Kamala Harris, who is soon expected to be appointed as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, has now limited her choice of vice presidential candidate to two people, according to the news agency Reuters.

The finalists are Pennsylvania's Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz, according to three sources with insight into the process.

Harris is expected to announce her choice at the latest on Tuesday, before her first public appearance with her vice presidential candidate at Temple University in Philadelphia.

51-year-old Josh Shapiro won the governor's election in 2022 in the electorally crucial swing state of Pennsylvania against a Trump-backed candidate. Lawyer Shapiro is an outspoken critic of the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. He has previously been the state's highest legal officer (attorney general) and sat in the state congress.

Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz, 60, was previously highly ranked in the US National Guard, a former teacher, and has long political experience from Congress. He has sailed up as a favorite with Harris in recent weeks.
