A fresh report from Region Stockholm has mapped out authors, publishers, and agencies in Stockholm and notes that the industry is centered around the capital. This is reported by Swedish Book Trade, SvB.
50 percent of Sweden's active authors live in the capital, 14 out of 15 literary agencies are located in Stockholm, and 90 percent of all publishers that are members of the Publishers' Association have their offices there.
Today, half of the debut authors presented in Swedish Book Trade's catalog of autumn books have an address in Stockholm County. The reason is believed to be the literary circuit in the city, with book events and publishing contacts readily available, which attracts young people with writing ambitions to Stockholm.
The Authors' Association's figures also show that around half of the members have an address in the Stockholm region. This also applies to the addresses that the Authors' Fund makes payments to.
Corrected: An earlier version of the text contained an error regarding the Stockholm-centeredness of the book industry.
