Record-large concern about the international situation

The development in Russia and military conflicts are what worry Swedes the most, shows a forthcoming attitude survey from the SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.

Of those surveyed, 44 percent were very worried about military conflicts. 35 percent felt great concern about the risk of a new world war.

Since we started measuring this, around 2001, it has never been at such high levels, says Marcus Weissenbilder at the SOM Institute to the radio.

The survey was conducted in 2024, before the shift in power in the USA and the turbulence in global politics that has occurred in recent weeks. Environment and climate, as well as economy, are issues that do not worry in the same way as before.

You can't have all questions in your head at the same time. Then you have to prioritize, and then maybe the environment feels a bit further away, both in terms of time and perhaps distance, says Weissenbilder.
