The County Administrative Board in Västra Götaland has decided on protective hunting of a young male wolf after attacks on sheep, writes the authority in a press release.
As recently as July 25, two dead sheep were found in Alboga near Herrljunga. The wolf managed to get through a predator-deterrent fence and was identified with the help of DNA.
The wolf originates from the former Ripelången pack and is not considered genetically important.
"The County Administrative Board's assessment is that there are no other suitable measures in the short term to prevent further attacks, and that it is important to remove the individual as soon as possible", writes the County Administrative Board.
The decision was made on Monday and the hunt will take place in a limited area in the municipalities of Falköping, Herrljunga, and Ulricehamn.
