The security at an airbase in western Germany has been increased due to intelligence information indicating a "potential threat", announces Nato. All personnel not essential for the mission have been sent home as a precautionary measure.
"The safety of our personnel is our top priority", writes Nato on X.
The base in Geilenkirchen has Nato aircraft with the warning and control system Awacs.
Last week, an alarm was triggered due to suspected water sabotage at a military airbase outside Cologne, where a hole was also found in a fence. The water then showed "unusual" values, according to the German military. The base was then closed for several hours.
In connection with this, reports also emerged of observations of suspected activity at the base in Geilenkirchen, reported the news agency DPA.
