Stay indoors if you don't have to venture out onto the roads. The police are making this appeal to road users on the very slippery roads, primarily in the southern parts of the country, on Friday morning.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued an orange warning for sudden ice slicks in inland and northeastern Götaland as well as southernmost Svealand.

There is snow on many roads, says Bengt Olsson, press chief at the Swedish Transport Administration.

There has been quite a bit of chaos in the southernmost parts of Sweden, mainly single-vehicle accidents.

Östergötland and the Jönköping area have been particularly affected. There has been some trouble on the smaller road network and incidents where lorries have blocked roads, according to Olsson. However, there have been no serious accidents with personal injuries.

It's a bit messy here and there, but no major situations.

On the whole, it seems that the warning has been heeded. But it's not over yet.

Follow local weather reports. There is snow on many roads, not all the time and everywhere – but where you least expect it, says Olsson.

Yellow warnings for ice slicks have also been issued for inland and northeastern Götaland as well as southern Svealand. The warnings, including the orange one, are valid until 9 am.

Milder air is, however, on its way over Scandinavia, and plus degrees are expected throughout the country by the weekend, according to SMHI.
