The Security Service is investigating a suspected terrorist traveler north of Stockholm. According to information from TV4, the person is suspected of having made at least two trips and simultaneously grossly financing terrorism.
The person is not detained.
What can be said is that within the framework of a preliminary investigation concerning the financing of terrorism, a gross offense, and traveling for terrorism, suspicions have arisen against a person. The person has requested a public defender and received it, says Per Lindqvist, chief prosecutor at the National Security Unit, to TV4.
Lindqvist does not want to confirm how many trips are involved or which country or terrorist group is relevant. But the offense, which was introduced in the law in 2016, concerns traveling, or initiating a journey, to a country to, among other things, commit or participate in terrorist crimes.
The prosecutor states that the offenses took place in "among other things, Sigtuna municipality", north of Stockholm.
