For some, such as activities covered by the Crime Data Act or concerning national security, the new rules entail extended opportunities for camera surveillance. However, when it comes to public activities, certain requirements will still be imposed.
"The rules imply new requirements for, among others, municipalities, regions, and authorities to themselves ensure that their surveillance is permitted. They now need to establish documented interest assessments for all their surveillance and register their surveillance in a register," says Jenny Bård, unit manager at IMY, in a press release.
Furthermore, everyone who wants to set up a camera filming people must follow the rules in the Data Protection Regulation GDPR and the Camera Surveillance Act even after the legislative change.
