Education Minister Johan Pehrson (L) wants schools that do not follow the law to be able to receive fines, as a complement to penalty orders.
Schools that do not meet the requirements set out in the Education Act should be able to face a direct consequence in the form of a fine. Then, one cannot gamble in the way that one might suspect that some schools have done, he says to SR Ekot.
He is referring to Ekot's previous reporting on the fact that the School Inspectorate has only proceeded to court in two cases in the past five years and demanded payment of penalty amounts.
A penalty order is intended as a pressure tool but often becomes a lengthy process. The question of fines is currently being investigated and is expected to be clarified in the spring.
