Telge Nät, which is responsible for the drinking water in Södertälje, also pumps up water from Mälaren but handles it first in a gravel ridge. In this way, they can build up large reserves.
The water we drink in Södertälje and Nykvarn today, we pumped up a little over three months ago, so we get a different kind of stability in our system, says Fredrik Andersson, operations manager at Telge Nät to the radio.
Johanna Ansker at Stockholm Vatten och Avfall tells P4 Stockholm that they have looked at the solution before but come to the conclusion that the Stockholm ridge is not sufficient and that the best alternative is still Mälaren.
