Payne's ex-partner also reacts to what she calls "appalling reporting" surrounding the death. She is worried that her son will one day be able to read everything that has been written.

"It breaks my heart even more that I won't be able to protect him from this in the future", she writes in a post on Instagram.

"When I try to navigate this shocking event, and work my way through my own grief in this indescribably painful time, I would like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being", she writes.

Cheryl Ann Tweedy, known by her stage name Cheryl, was together with Liam Payne from 2016 to 2018. Their son Bear was born in 2017.

On Friday, Liam Payne's own father, Geoff Payne, visited the hotel in Argentina where his son was found dead. He thanked fans on site for coming and looked through the cards in the bouquet that had formed outside the hotel.

On Saturday, it is said that Geoff Payne will arrange for his son's body to be brought back to the UK.

One Direction star Liam Payne, 31, died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening, Swedish time.
