In May, a 13-year-old boy killed ten people at a school in Serbia's capital Belgrade. Now his parents have been sentenced to prison.

The boy cannot be prosecuted due to his age. But his father is sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison, while his mother is to serve three years in prison.

According to the court in Belgrade, the father is guilty of a serious crime against public safety, as well as neglect and abuse of a minor. The mother is guilty of neglect and abuse of a minor.

The mother was simultaneously acquitted of suspicions of illegal manufacture, possession, and carrying of weapons.

The instructor at a local shooting range was also sentenced, to one year and three months in prison.

Both the prosecutor and the defense attorneys have stated that they will appeal the verdicts.

The shooting, which was followed by another fatal shooting the next day, sent shockwaves through Serbia with large demonstrations and demands for, among other things, stricter gun control and an end to violence on TV.
