Several Palestinian groups are calling for a general strike and demonstrations on the West Bank on Wednesday.
The groups write in a joint statement that the protests are against "the killing of the great national leader Ismail Haniya".
AFP news agency's journalists in Ramallah report that public employees in several places are leaving their workplaces, and in several cities on the West Bank, shops have closed and people have stopped working.
