On Wednesday afternoon, the national handball team's new federation captain Michael Apelgren presented his first squad.
Later in the evening, he received a beating in the Champions League – dealt by a Swede he didn't pick.
Apelgren's Hungarian club Pick Szeged narrowly lost, 28–29, away to Ålborg after Jack Thurin decided the match in the final minute with his fifth goal of the match. The 25-year-old right-back Thurin has played eleven national team matches in his career, most recently in 2021.
One who was selected for Apelgren's squad for the national team matches in November was Ålborg's goalkeeper Fabian Norsten, who made nine saves in the Danes' victory.
Pick Szeged, where Michael Apelgren is in his first season, has won three matches and lost two so far in the group stage.
The reigning champions Barcelona top the table with maximum ten points after a 31–29 away win against Zagreb. Hampus Wanne scored four goals for Barça in the away win.
