A trade war between the USA and EU can hit particularly hard against Norway, warns Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg. Norway can be affected by a triple blow, he says.

Tariffs in combination with a decline in the global economy would be disastrous for Norway, according to the new Finance Minister.

Firstly, we can be affected by trade barriers in the USA, which will impact companies that sell goods from Norway to the USA. Then we can be affected if the EU takes countermeasures, and we end up outside them. Then we fall between two stools, says Stoltenberg to reporters at the security conference in Munich.

Thirdly, Norway can be affected by a comprehensive trade war that can impact growth in the global economy with price increases and interest rates.

Stoltenberg has spent most of his time in Munich arguing in the opposite direction, among other things in a meeting with the EU's Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic.

He is an old friend who understands the Norwegian perspective.
