The Swedish Nobel laureate Bengt Samuelsson is dead, his relatives report to Aftonbladet.
Bengt Samuelsson passed away after a period of illness on Sunday, the newspaper writes. He became 90 years old.
Samuelsson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1982, together with Sune Bergström and the Briton John Vane.
They were awarded for their research on prostaglandins, a substance naturally occurring in almost the entire human body. They mapped out how the substance is composed. Their research resulted in practically applicable treatment methods for, among other things, stomach ulcers, menstrual pains, leg ulcers, and acceleration of difficult births.
