The incoming President Donald Trump has threatened to decide on tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada as well as China on his very first day in the White House.
Sources tell the Wall Street Journal that Trump plans to issue a memorandum where authorities are tasked with evaluating the US trade relations with China and also neighboring countries Canada and Mexico. This includes, among other things, examining how well the countries comply with their trade agreements with the US.
According to the newspaper, the statement says nothing about any new tariffs being imminent. An advisor to Donald Trump tells the Wall Street Journal that the memorandum rather deals with outlining a trade plan for the upcoming administration.
