The drinking water in Kallinge was contaminated in 2013 through firefighting foam containing PFAS used during fire exercises at the F17 air force base.

The Supreme Court ruled in 2023 that high levels of PFAS in the blood can be considered a personal injury and that it should be possible to seek damages if the cause is contaminated drinking water.

145 Kallinge residents who ingested PFAS through the drinking water demanded 100,000 kronor each in compensation from the Defence Forces in October this year. The Defence Forces forwarded the case to the Chancellor of Justice.

But on Friday, the decision was made that the defence will not compensate the affected, as the statute of limitations of ten years has passed.

It's clear that one is disappointed. They could have chosen another path and taken their responsibility. If they had wanted to take their responsibility, they would have done so, says chairman Herman Afzelius to TV4.

It's just cowardly and strange, he continues.

The PFAS Association has not yet decided whether to take the case to court or not. In parallel, the association is working on preparing compensation claims to be made against Ronneby's water company, Ronneby Miljö och Teknik AB, according to the TV channel.
