The group from Leeds, formed in 2020, and the album they are being awarded for is their debut.

Among the twelve nominees for the prize were, among others, Beth Gibbons, Cat Burns, and the big favorite Charli XCX.

According to the jury's motivation, the album "shows new depths with each listening, a sign of a future classic".

The prize money is 25,000 pounds, equivalent to over 300,000 kronor.

The Mercury Prize has been awarded since 1992 to the year's best British or Irish album. The prize has to a greater extent gone to more independent, less established artists than the prizes at the Brit Awards.
