Saleh's political thriller is pitted against the documentary "Israel Palestine on Swedish TV 1958-1989" by Göran-Hugo Olsson and Lisa Langseth's upcoming romantic comedy "The dance club".
"Eagles of the republic" is the third part of Tarik Saleh's "Cairo trilogy" and thus a kind of sequel to "Boy from heaven", which became Sweden's Oscar bid in 2022. Fares Fares plays the lead role.
Which film will finally become Sweden's Oscar bid in the category of best international film will be presented on August 27.
Each country is allowed to appoint a candidate, the Oscar Academy in Hollywood then makes a first screening on December 16 and on January 22 the final five nominees will be presented. The 2026 Oscar gala will take place on March 15.
