The former film mogul Weinstein will be brought to justice on a point where the jury has not been able to agree on a guilty or acquittal verdict, reports NBC. It concerns allegations from an actress who claims that Weinstein raped her at a hotel in 2013.
In the first trial in 2020, Weinstein was convicted on all three charges, but the verdict was later overturned and the trial had to be retried.
During the second trial, a situation arose where the jury's chairman felt threatened by other jury members and therefore the judge saw himself forced to invalidate the last part of the trial.
On June 12, it was announced that the jury had been divided on the charge of rape, acquitted in one case of sexual assault and convicted in another case of sexual assault.
Weinstein has denied all allegations. During the previous trial, his lawyers claimed that the sexual contacts with the three women were "voluntary" and described the women as "gold-diggers".
The judge has announced that Weinstein will not receive his sentence in the second trial until the process in a forthcoming third trial is completed.
If the trial is not held before September 30, the pronouncement will be postponed.
