New TV deal gives the Olympic Games billions

The International Olympic Committee, IOC, has extended the TV rights with the American NBC over the Olympic Games 2034 and 2036. According to the IOC, the agreement is worth three billion dollars, equivalent to approximately 30 billion kronor.

The IOC writes in a press release that the agreement provides "a greater contribution to long-term stability for the entire Olympic movement".

According to the IOC, 90 percent of the revenue will be distributed in support to athletes and sports organizations around the world.

NBC had an agreement with the IOC until 2032, and the new and extended agreement also includes the 2034 Winter OS in Salt Lake City and the 2036 Summer Games.

The current agreement with NBC for the American TV rights was written in 2014 and applied until 2032. The agreement was valued at approximately 79 billion kronor.
