Sales in retail reached record levels last week, with the trade's revenge week featuring Black Friday as the final, according to payment statistics from SEB.
Sales increased by ten percent compared to the corresponding week last year, and the upswing was broad with increases in several sectors, according to the card statistics from the bank.
The question is whether the shopping spree is a first signal that households are now on their way to start consuming again after having held back on spending in times of inflation, or if it was just a temporary hunt for offers, reason the SEB economists.
Besides the fact that goods trade went well, households also spent more on food and services such as hotel and restaurant visits.
