The imprisoned Georgian ex-president Micheil Saakasjvili is sentenced to an additional 4.5 years in prison in Georgia. This time for illegally crossing the country's border when he returned from his exile in 2021.
Recently, his sentence for fraud was extended from six years to nine years in prison.
Saakasjvili, who led the Russia-critical so-called Rose Revolution in Georgia in 2003, has already been imprisoned for several years.
In recent years, the ruling party Georgian Dream has steered Georgia increasingly towards Moscow, despite persistent popular protests demanding EU membership.
