"Little House on the Prairie" is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's autobiographical books about the pioneer family Ingalls' life in the Midwest in the USA in the 19th century.
In the 1970s and 80s, a popular TV version of the books was broadcast, featuring, among others, Michael Landon as father Charles Ingalls and Melissa Gilbert as daughter Laura. Who will play in the new version is not known, nor when the series is intended to be broadcast.
Behind the new version is producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, who is also behind "The Vampire Diaries".
"I fell deeply in love with the books when I was five years old. They inspired me to become a screenwriter and filmmaker, and I am honored and overjoyed to get to recreate these stories for a new audience", she says in a statement.
