Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is traveling to Washington, where he will give a speech to the American Congress.
Netanyahu calls the trip "very important" and it takes place during a period of "great political uncertainty", referring to President Biden's announcement that he is dropping out of the presidential election campaign.
The relationship between the two countries is strained due to Israel's warfare in Gaza.
Netanyahu says that in his speech, he will "strive to anchor the US support that is so crucial for Israel."
"I will tell my friends from both sides (Democrats and Republicans) that regardless of whom the American people elect as president, Israel remains the US's most important and strongest ally in the Middle East", he wrote in a statement before boarding the plane at Ben Gurion Airport.
