Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken on the phone with the US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, reports Israeli media.
Netanyahu reiterated what he had previously said publicly, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office:
"Israel takes into account the issues raised by the US government, but ultimately makes its decisions based on its own national interests."
Earlier in the week, Netanyahu's office issued a similar statement, following American media reports that Netanyahu had promised President Joe Biden to spare oil and nuclear energy targets in his planned retaliation against Iran.
Israel has vowed a "bloody" response to the 200 drones that Tehran fired at the country on October 1. According to The Times of Israel, Israel's security cabinet is gathering on Sunday evening, likely for discussions on retaliation against Iran.
