Let go of the porn. It's the new rules on X, formerly Twitter.
Already before Elon Musk's purchase of the platform, there were plenty of explicit content from both bot accounts and verified users. Technically, it wasn't forbidden, but X has still tried to clean up most of it. Now, several media outlets, including the tech site Techcrunch, report that X is changing its stance.
Porn is now allowed – but with some fine print. The content must be clearly marked so that it becomes "invisible" for users under 18 years old or those who haven't specified their age. It won't be allowed to have porn as a profile picture or in the image on your profile page. X's new guidelines also allow AI-generated porn and animated content.
The move from the platform can be seen in the light of declining revenues and a shrinking user base, but also as a potential competitor to the platform Onlyfans – which has essentially taken the market for individual porn creators.
Allowing porn on one's platform has historically created problems for other social media and sites, including Tumblr, which was accused of hosting child pornography material.
