The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has the support of many in the European Parliament. But not from everyone.
During Thursday's debate, French left-wing politician Manon Aubry thought von der Leyen should instead be brought to justice, for lack of transparency during the coronavirus pandemic. Polish extreme right-wing politician Ewa Zajaczkowska-Hernik, in turn, thought von der Leyen should be imprisoned, as responsible for rapes committed by migrants.
But Diana Sosoaca from the extremist party SOS Romania went the furthest.
You have killed people! shouted newly elected Sosoaca, who quickly made herself notorious for vaccine criticism, opposition to Ukraine and LGBTQ issues – and her promise to bring a priest to parliament to drive out demons.
Sosoaca was finally forced out of the parliamentary chamber by Speaker Roberta Metsola after three times loudly disrupting Thursday's debate.
