Staff at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza and Al-Awdah Hospital in the northern part of the Hamas-controlled strip say that people were killed on their way to distribution points for emergency aid. Some were also killed while waiting for convoys with supplies. Testimonies confirm the medical staff's statement, according to AFP.
Hashim Shamalah, who tried to reach a distribution point in southern Gaza, tells the news agency that Israeli forces fired at people trying to make their way forward.
The emergency aid is being distributed by the criticized Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an Israeli-American initiative that deviates from the methods of established humanitarian organizations to provide supplies.
AFP has asked Israel about the events, but has not received a response yet. GHF claims, despite AFP's reports, that no incidents occurred at the distribution points on Wednesday.
According to, among others, the UN, the levels of starvation and malnutrition in Gaza are record-high. According to Hamas-controlled authorities, 106 children and 129 adults have died from hunger-related causes since the end of June.
