The bodies were found on Saturday at the Pa Nakhon Chaibovorn temple in Phichit province in central Thailand, according to the police.
The bodies were found with death and body donation certificates. So far, no reports have been made, and the police are contacting the relatives of the deceased to confirm that the bodies were donated voluntarily.
We are trying to ensure that none of the dead bodies were stolen, says the police.
The leader of Phichit's provincial temple, Phra Ajarn Saifon Phandito, tells TV channel Thai PBS that the use of corpses is part of a "meditation technique" he has developed.
I do not know how many have adopted my technique, he says.
For another local TV channel, he says that people meditate in pavilions where "coffins with human remains" are present.
The police in Phichit say they are working with authorities in other provinces to investigate how widespread it is.
A few days earlier, twelve bodies were found by the police at another temple in the neighboring province of Kamphaeng Phet.
