The recording started as early as December with Melania Trump herself as one of the executive producers, and the film will have both a cinema and streaming premiere during the second half of next year, writes Variety.
The most controversial aspect of the project concerns the film's director Brett Ratner, who has not made any films since 2017 when he was accused of sexual harassment and misconduct by several women, including actress Olivia Munn.
How the assignment could end up with Ratner, best known for the "Rush hour" films, is not entirely clear, but his film "Tower heist" from 2011 contains several scenes filmed in Trump's properties, and Donald Trump also visited the set.
Moreover, Ratner is said to have partly spent his exile after the #metoo allegations in his hometown of Miami and socialized in the same circles as the Trump couple.
