According to national team captain Didier Deschamps, it is not due to the Real Madrid player being suspected of rape in Stockholm, according to several media outlets.

It is my duty to make decisions, I believe it is best this way, says Deschamps at a press conference, according to AFP.

Deschamps also says that it is a one-time thing that he does not select Mbappé, and that the attacking star wanted to be part of the national team.

Mbappé missed the previous national team gathering in October due to injury and visited Stockholm then. After his visit to the Swedish capital, reports emerged that the football player is suspected of rape, but the Prosecution Authority has not confirmed that it is Mbappé who is suspected in the case.

Mbappé claims to be innocent and has called the media reports "fake news".

The forward played the entire match for club team Real Madrid on Tuesday at home against Milan (1–3), in the Champions League.
