The American singer Mariah Carey has double sorrow as both her mother and sister have passed away, on the same day.
"My heart is broken since I lost my mother over the weekend," she says in a statement to TMZ and continues:
"Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day."
Mariah Carey's mother Patricia, 87, was previously an opera singer and in her memoirs, Mariah Carey wrote about the competition that developed between them, but also about the deep love she felt for a mother who "did her best", according to BBC. On the singer's second Christmas album (2010), they sing together, among other things, "O come all ye faithful".
The relationship with her sister was not easy either. Her sister Alison also sued Mariah Carey after the memoirs, "The meaning of Mariah Carey", were published in 2020.
Mariah Carey's sister Alison was 63 years old.
