Marcimain makes SVT series of Ullmann's novel

After a detour to Netflix, Mikael Marcimain is once again making a major Swedish TV series for SVT. This time, the script is based on a novel by Linn Ullmann. It's always very scary to tackle a work that you think is very good, says Marcimain.

"The Laser Man", "Up to the Fight" and "Events by the Water".

Marcimain has several critically acclaimed SVT series behind him at this point. Now Linn Ullmann's novel "The Precious", which was published in Norwegian in 2011, is next in line.

Ullmann says that she has been a fan of Marcimain for a long time – and that it was when he came into the picture that “everything just felt right”.

Gripping Family Drama

Marcimain describes the novel as an emotional psychological thriller – with a focus on people and family.

It's an incredibly gripping family drama across different generations of women, he says, promising a "gripping, exciting, strong relationship drama with very strong female characters".

Ullmann says that the book is about "attempts at love" and describes the novel as her most personal – despite having written others with a more obvious autobiographical character. That it will now get its own wings through Marcimain feels "enormous". She will not interfere too much – or not at all.

It's important to me that it's now up to others to do and shape this book.

"A Book About Attempts at Love"

The book is about the couple Siri and Jon – he a writer and consistently unfaithful, she a competent restaurateur, with a great deal of responsibility on her shoulders.

The story begins with Siri planning an – unwelcome – 75th birthday party for her mother and hiring the nanny Mille to help out. During the party, Mille disappears.

The series will be made in six episodes and will start filming on the Swedish west coast in the fall. The planned broadcast start is fall 2026.

This spring, Mikael Marcimain is current with the Netflix drama "An Honest Life" based on a book by Joakim Zander.

Linn Ullmann's latest novel in Swedish is "Girl 1983", which came out in 2022. She is now working on a new novel that "spans many hundreds of years and features large female characters". According to Ullmann, it will not be finished until at least a year from now.
