A man has smashed a sculpture by the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei at a vernissage in Bologna, reports Reuters on its site.
The man entered the event at Palazzo Fava, which was only open to invited guests, pushed the sculpture and then took a large piece and threw it to the floor. The exhibition's curator, Arturo Galansino, says that the man is well-known in the art world and has performed similar acts before.
The police arrested a 57-year-old Czech citizen after the museum's security department stopped him.
"Ai Weiwei is relieved that no one was injured", says the artist's spokesperson.
The sculpture is now being replaced by an image of the artwork and the exhibition will continue as usual at Palazzo Fava until May 4.
